No Anthro Zone Reviews: Sweet Osmanthus and Silver Dusted - APB: Shinning Eddie Bracelet

Happy Memorial Day! I'm enjoying my day off.  Yay!  While looking forward to a short 3-day work week. Double Yay!  Then another 3-day weekend.  Triple Yay!  Then a dreaded 5-day work-athon.  Boo!

Anthro's Sweet Osmanthus Shift - by Ranna Gill - $178 - May 2011

The APB is for my new found friend and co-conspirator, Kris.  Ha-ha! Did that sound like I put out an APB looking for her? This is on her behalf.  And yes she is the person I met up with this weekend.  You will be seeing and meeting her in the near future.

Shinning Eddie Bracelet in Purple - by Tataborello - Anthro Orig $218 Sale $100 - June 2010

Over the weekend, Kris took a Shine to my Shinning Eddie Bracelet by Tataborello.  She would love to have one of her own. I know it's a long shot. The bracelet is from the 2010 Spring/Summer collection. So, if you have this Tataborello in your possession, and are willing to part with it, please contact me (Laura) at lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com.  I will connect you with Kris to work out the details.

Anthro's Sweet Osmanthus Shift by Ranna Gill - $178

No Anthro Zone Review - Anthro's Sweet Osmanthus Shift by Ranna Gill - Online Exclusive - $178 - Size Small

Osmanthus - A genus of 30 flowering plants native to Asia.

This dress was an Impulse Buy.  Within minutes it was in the Bag.  The only reason I didn't check out immediately was to shop for a pair of sandals.

Loud crack of a whip heard.
 Bad Laura!
Shoe reviews to follow

SIZE:  Since this is an online exclusive, I took the plunge without reviews for guidance.  I ordered my normal size Small (4 to 6) for dresses.  I'm 5'5" Tall, 130 lbs, 35-28-36, 34C to D, narrow shoulders.

FIT: I'm smaller through the hips. The dress fits from the waist down with enough room to sit. The arm holes are not too long. My bra was completely covered.  But the bodice was a vise. The girls were FLAT OUT unimpressed. Despite the fact that this is described as a SHIFT, the fit is tailored.

If large through the chest, order one size up from your True Size
If small through the chest stay with your True Size

The length was ~ 2 inches above the knee.

DETAILS: The White Embroidery is exquisite. This is what Ranna Gill is best known for.

Not a stray thread or hiccup in the pattern
The placement is precise
No crossing over seams. The flower stems start from the hemline, obviously stitched after the pattern was cut. The inside is reinforced. That said the looped edging that resembles Pom-Poms at the hem and neckline was already beginning to fuzz after trying the dress on twice. No Pockets! Side Zip!

FABRIC: Yummy Leafy Green Cotton Voile that is...

 thin, sheer, and wrinkles easily

For the price, a liner should have been included to back the sheer shell and cover the maze of embroidery on the inside.  The dress is 100% Cotton and Dry Clean Only. You can't wear this perfectly pressed for more than 2 minutes. Unless you plan to stand the entire time.

ZIPPER MALFUNCTION:  Unfortunately for me, the ribbon loop at the top of the side zip was pulled into the zipper on the way up. The only means of escape from this dress was over head. The zipper is top quality YKK brand.

When will Bad Laura learn. Impulse Buys net nothing but large shipping and return fees.  Remember Modcloth's Enchanting Entomologist Dress by Corey Lynn Calter?  Review seen HERE.  Need I say more!

Not recommended at Full Price.  I'm not even tempted on sale. Cut is tailored and fitted.  TTS or Size Up if Busty. Needs a Liner. Fabric is thin, sheer and wrinkles easily. The only thing going for this dress is the Exquisite Embroidery!

No Anthro Zone Review  - Silver Dusted Wedges by Dolce Vita - Online Exclusive - $168 - Size 8

These are the Sandals I picked for the Sweet Osmanthus Shift.  Even though I crossed the dress off my Wish List, I still love these shoes. But the style is OLD Laura.  So I am going to resist temptation.  I doubt the 7.5 will ever make sale.

These are an excellent Neutral Sandal. Easily styled dressy or casual
The color looks both Silver and Gold depending on the light

SIZE: I normally wear an 8.  Occasionally an 8.5.  Very seldom do I need a 7.5. I went with size 8.

Anthro's Silver Dusted Wedges by Dolce Vita - May 2011

FIT: It's clear I need a 7.5.  There is an inch of space to the front.  Otherwise, the fit it fabulous. Not too loose around the ankle.  Perhaps just slightly big across the top of the foot. No toe squash or bite between the soft leather straps.

Run long - Size down a half size

The top of the zipper bites at the back of the heel
Nothing a Foot Petals Strappy Strip can't handle

DETAILS: These are not a quick, slip-on-and-go Sandal. You will have to sit to put these on carefully. I'm not a fan of the Large Tassels that hide the Knot detail down the front.  The tassels can be removed without cutting them.

These are Fully Recommended even at the Original Price.  Very comfortable Size down 1/2 size.

Then I saw Keiko of Keiko's Tan PoPo wearing Anthro's Peggy of She Hath Done What She Could tracked down a pair for me. Last Thursday I paired the Finest Hour Heels with my favorite Tippi Dress by Anna Sui.  Sweet!

No Anthro Zone Review:  Finest Hour Heels by Miss Albright - Orig $158 Sale $80 - May 2011
Sold out online.  Possibly available in stores.

Online Reviews HERE.

SIZE: Peggy managed to find a pair in my true size 8 at her local Anthro.  She put them on hold for me.
FIT: Perfect! No pinching anywhere. The crossed leather straps that wrap across the top of the foot and tie at the back give a custom fit.

Finest Hour Heels - by Miss Albright - Anthro Orig $158 Sale $80 - May 2011

DETAILS:  I found the back tie a bit difficult to manage.  My bow kept turning perpendicular to the ground.  Then I remembered the rule every good Girl Scout knows...

Right over left, left over right
makes a knot both tidy and tight

The same applies to Bows. If the initial half knot and bow are tied opposite, the bow will always come out straight.  I tie mine left over right, then right over left.  If the initial half knot is right over left and the bow is also right over left, the final outcome will be cattywompus and Visa Versa.

The clog is solid wood, but light weight. The non slip rubber sole is not only slip proof, but almost entirely clip, clop proof too.

The color is medium Cream. The leather is almost buttery, with a smooth finish and stitched pleating that looks amazing dressed up or down.

My only complaint is the very hard wood instep. There wasn't enough clearance to insert cushions.

Recommended - these are truly an Anthro 5 Star Classic – TTS
Note: As with most clogs, the wood sole has no flex and is very hard.

I rarely wear shoes that tie. I tend to forget the Bow Tying Rule for shoes.  Although I always remember it for clothing with bows.

Are you familiar with the Rule?  Or was this the first time you have heard it?  Or do you sometimes forget the Rule like I do?

Anthro's Briny Winds Jacket by We Love Vera Takes a Spring Break! Sale Rumor?

I have no excuse for being MIA for almost a week.  Today's Post is brought to you by the always wonderful Pamela of Ginger Girl. Pamela and I share a love of all things Orla Kiely.  Last week she asked about sizing for Anthro's Briny Winds Jacket by We Love Vera.  Which reminded me that I have not yet worn the Jacket this Spring.

Briny Winds Jacket - by We Love Vera - Anthro Orig $128 Sale $70 - May 2009
Molded and Melded Tee - by C Keer - Anthro Orig $48 Sale $29 - Jan 2011
Year Round Pants in Black - by Hei Hei - Anthro Orig $98 Sale $50 - Nov 2009

Shiny Leather Caraway Bag in Mauve - Orla Kiely Orig $584 Sale $380 - Feb 2011

Sun and Sky Bracelet - Esty Shop L Rose Designs $58 Russian Ammonozite and Yel Quartz on Sterling - Apr 2009
A Rose Is A Rose Earrings - by Etsy Shop Magillie $18 - March 2009
I hadn't realized that my High Gloss Belt in Blue was showing below the Jacket until I saw these photos.  I immediately removed the belt.  Another great reason to take photos of yourself.  You can instantly see your outfit mistakes.

More Trial and Error with the SLR.  If my last images were too dark, these are too light.  I did finally find the reset button.  Photos come out very nice everywhere but my living area.  Just look at the photo of my new Chie Mihara's taken in the yard.

Corn Lane Slingbacks - by Chie Mihara - Anthro $388 - May 2011
I'm still crying that these shoes didn't make sale in time to claim a price adjustment.  But really just a tear now and again.

Wicked and Hot!  What gal doesn't need some of that in her closet.

Wingspan Brooch - by Chilean Artist Chantal Bernsau - Anthro Orig $98 Sale $50 - Nov 2009
A Rose Is A Rose Earrings - by Etsy Shop Magillie $18 - March 2009

I was a total fan of Chantal Bernsau's horsehair art jewelry.  I was a bit disappointed to find out that Anthro's Wingspan Brooch was not constructed of horsehair. I believe it's plastic of some sort.  Of course I can no longer find the screen shot I kept of the original Product Page. I won't cry over it, because I think it was the perfect choice for a shoulder Garnish with Anthro's Briny Winds Jacket.

The very funny unplanned accessory in this photo is the well placed curly hair stuck to the front of my Jacket just below the large top button.  By the time I saw this little miscreant in the photo it was gone.  Who forgot to make a mirror check yesterday morning?  Me!  Did I forget to mention this is yesterday's OOTD.  Today I am wearing my Green De Armee Dress.

Now for something really dark.  I was playing with flash setting and modes yesterday.  As if you didn't already guess that.  Ha-ha!

I have nothing but deep down abiding love for my over sized Shiny Leather Caraway Bag in Mauve by Orla Kiely.

Memorial Weekend is finally here.  I'm so jazzed.  Remember, I hinted that something special was coming.  Hee-hee!  I'm meeting that very special person tomorrow afternoon for the first time.  I'm so exited I want to scream.  I made all the arrangements.  The perfect location has been found and we have permission to be there first thing Saturday morning.  And the weather in Bako is simply gorgeous and cool.  Your dieing to know what it is aren't you?

Zip! That's me shutting my big mouth.

Style Two for the Verdant Slip Dress! A White Balance Problem!

Happy Thursday.  It's the start of my three day weekend.  I swear, by next week I will master the SLR.  Right!  Who am I kidding?  I'm hoping for a few suggestions from experienced ladies.

Photo's of yesterdays outfit are up on my Virtual Closet HERE. The White Balance is a mess for the pre-sets.  I thought those were automatic and couldn't be adjusted.  I have no Users Guide, so I am flying solo.  I couldn't find a Master Reset Button, although I'm sure one exists.  I found a free, unsearchable Guide online.  Looks like I'm going to have to buy one. I can't carry the 3 hour set of DVD's around with me.

Anthropologie's Verdant Slip Dress by Moulinette Soeurs Styled Two Ways - May 2011
Left - $60 Reconditioned Kodak Point and Shoot from eBay
Right - $355 Used Olympus E-510 dSLR from Amazon

I was so happy to see the Verdant Slip Dress back in Stock at Anthropologie.  Today's OOTD is Style #2 for this remarkable Dress.  See all the photo's for Style #1 HERE. Including my review photo's.  Use the right arrow above the photo's to advance.

Shop the Verdant Slip on back order HERE.

I know there were plenty of ladies that didn't get a crack at this dress the first time around.  Now is your chance.  The stretch panel at the back offers a comfortable, perfect fit.  The adjustable straps will let you raise and lower the neckline and hemline.  The fit is TTS.  $138 for a lined Silk Dress with Pockets is so amazing I purchased the Reflecting Pools Dress too.

Shop the Reflecting Pools Dress HERE.

Roaming Frills Cardi in Blue - by Sparrow - eBay BIN $90 - May 2011
Inner Circle Necklace - Anthro $118 - April 2011

The only item I repeated for both styles is Anthro's Inner Circle Necklace.  Why mess with perfection!  At least that's what I thought this morning.  Everything changed this afternoon when I saw my neck.  This is the third time I've worn this $118  necklace, and this time is tuned my Neck Green.  I'm disgusted.

I would think before Shopping the Inner Circle Necklace HERE.

My photos today are much better than yesterday's photos of the Fragrant Valley Dress.  If you didn't see those, click HEREWhat is with the White Balance in the photo of the Petite Resin Clockwork Cuff?  WB is much worse when I use the preset for Macro and Portrait shots.  I'm better off using the Auto setting, until I find the reset.

Pear Print Beach Bag in Dandelion - Orla Kiely SS09 - Orla Kiely $196 - Feb 2009
Inner Circle Necklace - Anthro $118 - April 2011

Then this morning this happened. I used the Auto Setting for the above photo and the one below. What happened with the lighting above?  This is the exact same spot.  I did notice my flash suddenly because erratic.  Flashing multiple times before taking the picture.  That was a first.  The photo makes my legs look hairy and covered with veins.  Ack!  Not a pretty sight.

This image isn't bad.  However, the White Balance spots can still be seen as bright reflections. Especially on the sweater buttons. At this point my Kodak took much better photos.  I refuse to give up.  All I need are a few extra hours in the day to solve this issue.  That's what a three day weekend is for. I do love having a remote though.

You may not want to Shop Anthro's Lemon Stick Wedges by Miss Albright HERE

The Lemon Stick Wedges run large.  I normally wear an 8 to 8.5.  I originally ordered an 8.  They were falling off my foot. I sized down to a 7.5.  Even if you are between sizes, size one half size down from your smallest size.  I still had to punch 2 additional holes in the straps to tighten the fit across the top of my foot.  A normal issue for me since my foot is wide to the front, with a narrow arch and heel.  These fit perfect and provide comfort with a 4" boost.  Miss Albright is by far my favorite Anthro Brand.

At least it was this morning.  After wearing these 3 times, the slip proof rubber has detached at the back of the heel on both shoes. I protected the base of these shoes with water proofing. Nor did they get wet at any time. Just like the necklace, I can't change my review.

What a let down! I've never had fairly expensive Anthro jewelry turn me Green.  Nor have any of my Miss Albrights come apart, and so fast. Not only that, I have to call CS about 2 issues.  That's never happened in 3 years.

Has anything like this happened to you with Anthro products?

I placed the two styles for the Verdant Slip Dress next to each other in the first image...

Which photo has better quality?  Right or Left?  Which Style for the Verdant Slip Dress do you like best?  Right or Left.

Anthro's Pom Flower Shift in front of a dSLR! Relief for Japan!

I had planned the 2nd Edition of Mompos Monday.  But the arrival of the much anticipated Pom Flower Shift calls for a temporary cancellation. You may recall my desperate ABP a few weeks ago, as I frantically scoured my resources in pursuit of the Take Action and the Pom Flower Dresses.  Well, a wonderful Reader named Beth (AKA thegreatblueheron) came through with a size 4.  Thank you Beth.  Beth is the same gal that also tipped me onto EZSniper.  Wow, do I ever owe you.  Just let me know if there is ever anything I can do.

If Color Could Talk Necklace in Yellow - Anthro Orig $48 Sale $10 - May 2011

Honestly, It never occurred to me that Anthro's Pom Flower Shift by Tabitha would turn out to be a bit of a Styling Challenge.  I tried on every Cardigan in my closet that seemed suitable.  Never has it been more clear to me that I need a Black light weight Cardi  Not just for the Pom Flower, but for the Tippi Dress too.

I settled on Anthro's Whirl and Wind Cardi by Sparrow.  Obviously I'm not completely happy with my choice.  I've been searching for my ever elusive Black Cardi for several weeks.

This is the first day using my Olympus Evolt E510 10MP Digital SLR with CCD Shift Image Stabilization and14-42mm Zuiko Lens.  I scored it used on Amazon after plenty of research.  It has only 2,000 photos logged on the camera and looks brand new. Even better, I have something in my right hand in the above photo that my Point and Shoot could not offer.  What is it?????????????

Did I do OK????????  I could not remember the setting for blurring out the background.  I've always wanted to do that.

Any awesome suggestions for a light weight Black Cardi for Spring/Summer.  Preferably short or at the waist.  Not necessarily cropped.  Cotton is my fabric of choice.  Although I have considered light weight Cashmere like J Crew's feather weight.  I'd like to keep the price to under $100 if possible, But I also don't want to miss out on something spectacular that may be over the $100 mark.

Anticipation of tomorrows Anthro sale is mounting.  My Shopping Bag is loaded to the brim.  Bad Laura jumped the gun this morning for Anthro's Corn Lane Slingbacks by Chie Mihara.  I've been waiting since early January. I nabbed the last existing pair of 38.5's online and in the States.  I'm hoping for a sale credit.

Since I have to work tomorrow, Keiko of Keiko's TanPoPo has agreed to wake me after Anthro pushes the button.  BTW, Keiko is making beautiful Paper Crane Earrings for $23.  All proceeds go to Earthquake/Tsunami Relief in Japan.

Please visit Keiko HERE.  While you are there, thank her for me, and snag a beautiful pair of earrings of your own to benefit Japan.

First time making a Blog appearance is, Anthro'sSavoy Slingbacks by Chie Mihara.  I fell in love when I saw these in the June 2008 Catalog.  I waited months for them to hit Anthro's Sale Page, only to be broke.  It was tragic. Not being a savvy online shopper yet, I was sure all hope was lost. Then one day I was cruising Nordstrom when I realized they carried Chie's. And there they were. My long lost Savoy Slingback's.  The very last pair. In my size 38. At an astounding 70% off.  I could afford that.  I didn't mind when they arrived in a plain White shoe box.  I didn't so much as flinch when I couldn't wear them for 5 months.  After all, it was the middle of December.  I still love them.  I still wear them.

You all know my very first Orla Kiely.  Anthro's Sepia Crocus Bag AW08.  I still consider Anthro the birthplace for Orla, Chie and Leifsdottir.  I was so excited when Roxy Announced that Leifsdottir is returning as an exclusive Anthro Brand. I can't wait till June to see what's in store for this exciting label.

I think I almost fell over in this photo.  I was actually trying to get out of the way of the dozen or more citizens that comb the park at 6 AM for recyles.  Some even graciously picking up trash dropped by Litter Bugs.  Something I tend to do myself if possible. Not Litter! But actually pick up trash!

Here is a quick run through from the TOP Down.

Anthro's Spotlights Tank by RicRac was picked up in the Monterey Ca Store last year.  Heidi ran the Big Sur 21 mile Marathon.  The one with the Grand Piano at the bottom of a steep grade, and a Pianistperched, playing the Piano.   At the same time Christine was pulling a 5K.  I waited at the finish for both my friends, a former runner myself.

You can still shop my Ribbed Waist Cotton Cardifrom the Gap HERE.  This Cardi is exceptional and cheap.  TTS, high quality combed Cotton that doesn't stretch out. Anthro's High Gloss Belt is in stock and available in three colors, and all sizes, except Yellow HERE. Anthro's Days Off Skirt is now sold out in Navy.

Jesspgh of Consume or Consumed scored her Tippi Dress from Reader Melanie

A few minutes later Jess informed me that Melanie scored a dress too

LC of Bella Seattle has a Tippi on the way

Diem found a Tippi in Seattle.  Which seems to be a popular Tippi scouting area

Reader Allison scored a size 6, and had a size 8 available.  I hooked her up with Reader Kelly who was looking for a Tippi in size 8.  I don't know if blog magic happened for this exchange

I hooked Sharon up with a Tip on a Tippi size 2 in Seattle from LC
Another story I don't have a conclusion for

I'm getting a bit tipsy from all this Tippi madness.  I hope everyone found the Tippi of their dreams. Did I just write Tippi 9 times?
