A Waffle Over Lunch! Free Shipping is Back!

First order of the day.  Free Shipping is back at Anthro over $100 through November. I plan to drink a Margarita tonight in celebration. WooHoo!

Waffle Weave Dress - by RicRac - Anthro Orig $118 Sale $60 - Nov 2010
Jackie Cardi in Bright Cinnamon - by J Crew - Orig $62 Sale $50 - Aug 2011
Palisades Belt - Anthro Orig $44 Sale $10 - Oct 2011

This is what I wore to lunch with my son and his new girlfriend today. I received Anthro's Palisades Belt ($10) in the mail last night. I had no idea I would love it so much when I picked it up on Pop Back.  I'm particularly partial to the rich color of the leather on the front. So what better than to put together an outfit this morning that centers on this belt.

Anthro's Palisades Belt Reveiws HERE. Available on eBay HERE.

How do I put together an outfit on the fly from a belt?  I hold it up and pass it over my dresses.  At which point I settled on Anthro's Waffle Weave Dress by RicRac in rich Deep Plum.

See my alternate style for the Waffle Weave Dress HERE.
See tons of fun styles on totally cool Anthro Bloggers HERE.

I found two listings on eBay for the Waffle Weave Dress HERE.
The seller is asking for the original $118 for the dress.  That's crazy business if you ask me.

I added Anthro's Tree Rose Cuff in Lime to bring out the Green in the Palisades Belt.  Funny that my Review was at the top when I Goggled the cuff.  He-he!

Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes - by Miss Albright - Anthro $168 - Sept 2011
Sepia Crocus Bag - Dark Multi-Stem Shiny Laminate Tote by Orla Kiely AW08 - Anthro $178 - July 2008
I bet you are all just dying to hear about Camden's GF.

In my last Post I mentioned that I wear my Bowed Lacerta Mary Jane's often.  This will make twice in one week.  When I saw the November Catalog and the Tegu Platforms I did a double take.

The Tegu Platforms by Schuler and Son's not Miss Albright
I find them very similar to the Bowed Lacerta's by Miss Albright. The color combination is intriguing.

The Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes by Miss Albright

I have no quibble with owning both pairs of shoes. The description states they are by Miss Albright.  But it turns out they are actually by Schuler and Son's, which tend to run narrow for me across the front.  Too bad there is no vamp strap to keep these on my narrow heels.  But I do have my stretchy shoe bands.  However, I discovered yesterday that they are far more obvious when you wear them over tights.

Have I tortured you enough about Diana.  Oh, I suppose I haven't yet told you her name.  She is completely opposite of my son.  He is tall, thin, and Blue eyed.  She is short, Rubinesque, and dark eyed.

He told me yesterday that he "Loves her to death."  Not sure how to read that.

As I expected she's bright, but also a little shy. I could tell his displays of affection were making her uncomfortable in front of me. Neither of us are used to that is seems.  I certainly don't disapprove. They are young adults.

The most surprising bit of information is that she is a Pre-Med student.

OMG!  Camden had better get his act together fast.  He works at JBX and has no plans to attend college at this time, despite my offer to help. Diana is working as a floater at Sears while attending school. The same position I held while attending college to be a Dental Assistant years ago.  Go Diana! I already love her.

Anthro's Soft Pour Sweater Dress! Nefi's Debut!

Anthropologie's Soft Pour Sweater Dress circa 2007 $188 - by Sleeping on Snow - EA $65 - Oct 2011

This dress draws attention.  It was hooked first time I saw it on Heidi.  It continued to get my attention over the years. Heidi is the young lady that introduced me to Anthropologie over 3 years ago.

I found this dress on Effortless Anthropologie's Buy/Sell/Trade.  The seller wore it once. The original price was $188. I purchased this like-new dress for $65 with ship. Since the dress is a Medium and fits loose, I went with a structured belt instead of the matching sash. I layered a stretchy T-shirt and long shorts underneath as a barrier against the itchy wool.

Old World Cuff in Orange - Anthro $58 - Oct 2011

My 23 year old son wants me to meet his girlfriend. I actually squealed when I read his text. Girls have never been important to Camden.  There aren't too many girls that enjoy playing paintball in 110 degree heat from sun up until sun down. They aren't much for Dungeons and Dragons either. His point of view has always been that girls require too much time and effort. I have met only one friend that was a girl.  He passionately denied that she was his girlfriend.

Not this time. The term girlfriend was most definitely used.  I have it in writing.  He-he!
He did volunteer that she doesn't work with him.

I offered to buy lunch. I asked for a name. I was told I would have to wait until Friday. Oh, and I am not to be nosey.  Bah-ha-ha!  I'm the least nosey Mother alive.

The nerve of me to be seen wearing THE Stepford Wives Heels.  As far as I know, I am the only person in Bakersfield CA that has a pair of Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes, so not very Stepford Wives-ish are they?

Shop the Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes by Miss Albright HERE

After about a 1/2 dozen attempts to find a pair with no obvious defects, that also fit, I finally had success with an online order.  I have worn this pair of shoes at least once a week since I got them.  So they have turned out to be both versatile and comfortable.  They were worth the time and effort to find.

Old World Cuff in Orange - Anthro $58 - Oct 2011
This Cuff isn't what I expected.  For $58 I expected the Cuff in the online image.  The one I received isn't as feminine. There is no contrasting Purple layer underneath. I was about to complain because I don't have the option to chose, when I returned to the product page and realized that this item is an online exclusive.

I can't get the Gray and Purple bow out of my mind. If I had the time, I would make it myself.  But I doubt the bow would end up presentable.  And it's doubtful I could find Jacquard that looks anything like the online version I'm obsessing over.

I searched Fabric Bow Cuffs on Etsy.  You can see what I can get for $38 HERE, for $59 HERE, and for $118 HERE.

I was not impressed.  In fact, I'm now inclined to keep my Old World Cuff from Anthro. With the option to order a few just to see what I get.

Does this count as a Bunny Photo Bomb?

My friend Christine was disappointed at seeing the same photo of Nefi at the top of my blog for an entire week. That was just after my trip to New York.  This time I've neglected my blog for over a week, and comment rounds for at least two. Please except my sincere apologies.

1 Rescue Rabbit + 2 Allergies + 3-Day Field Trip + 4 Days of Back Hiccups = 10 Days of Blog Post Lag
My plan was to... use apple bits to entice Nefi to bunny bomb my photos.  Ha-ha! It didn't exactly go my way.

If you want to experience bunny bombs at their finest, visit The Dapper Bun.  Bandit is a pint sized Dwarf Hotot Rabbit.  You can't miss Mary Ann's exceptional style? She scores high in my book for taking excellent care of her boots.

My new plan is...no plan at all.  I'm prepared to wait for unplanned Nefi bombs.

I was not prepared for the Lemon Lift-Off Blouse.  It's not often whimsical prints entice me. I couldn't resist the owls perched on floating moons against a sunny backdrop. But why Lemon Lift-Off? I didn't expect the unstructured, thin Silk to do me any favors.  Reviews suggested the blouse ran large through the chest and small through the hips.  I did a 20 minute finger dance over the order button. Luckily size 6 was out of stock.  I was forced to go with an 8. I normally wear size 6 in Anthro's exclusive Girls From Savoy Brand.

Shop Anthro's Lemon Lift Off Blouse by Girls From Savoy in 100% Silk HERE.

If you are larger than a C cup, size up!  The Silk is very sheer. I layered Anthro's Reversible Tank in Brown under the blouse.  A less obvious Ivory Tank would be a better choice. Next time I plan to wear this with the Lengthening Rays Skirt in Brown (on sale). Size down 1 or even 2 sizes for the Lengthening Rays.

Glossed Loafers 7.5 - by Lucky Penny - Anthro Orig $168 Sale $80 - Sept 2011

This outfit was inspired by Anthro's July 2011 Catalog Cover Photo.

For a work friendly outfit, I replaced Anthro's AG Stevie Ankle in Green with Jana Herringbone Trousers by Cartonnier.  I picked up Anthro's Glossed Loafers in Turquoise at the Santa Monica Anthro, and received a PA 1 week later when they made sale.  They are no longer available online.  Check Anthro's product page for Pop Backs HERE.

I found a very useful shoe accessory that will give new life to several pairs of Shoes in My Closet.

Issue: My foot is narrow through the instep and heel, and medium to slightly wide across the front. I wear a B or Medium width shoe to accommodate the wider front. My heel slips out of the back of most Medium widths with no tie or vamp strap.  Heel inserts offer a more secure feel, but as I flex my foot while walking, my heel still tends to slip.

Narrow heel slips out of medium width shoe while walking
Solution:  A set of clear stretchy bands that fit over each shoe and across the vamp comfortably. When I walk, the back of the shoe never slips off my heel. I used one set of bands during a 10-hour day.  I compared the used set to the unworn set, and there is no difference in length.  So the good news is, they don't stretch out after at least one wear.  If they hold up for 10 wears (50 cents/wear for 2 sets), I'm happy.  It's possible the bands could break if over stretched. I found them to be fairly resilient.

Clear Shoe Band over same shoe/foot
Shoe is held in place at the heel by a stretchy clear band that fits over the shoe
These will become an absolute necessity for me. I found with only two sets, I tend to forget to use them unless they are inside the shoes when I put them on.  I don't really notice the need until I am walking at a brisk enough pace to cause my heel to slip.  By that time I am already at work.  I plan to order enough sets of bands to place them inside each pair of shoes that needs them.

I know you have all been waiting patiently for photo's of Nefi. See the story of my abandoned Hotot Rabbit HERE.

I allowed her to venture out into the backyard today for the first time. She celebrated with a 180 degree Binky.

Nefi (named after Nefertari 19th Dynasty Egyptian Queen and Royal Wife of Ramses II)

"This is my first time outside since I was rescued. I rubbed my chin on every sprinkler in my territory."

Nefi takes a time out for a manicure

"Nothing to fear. Every time I checked, the back door was open."

Heishe the Hunter  (still intimidated by this new presence)

"Quiet...I'm huntin' Nefi Wabbit."

A little backyard predator/prey role reversal

"Shhhhhhh...I'm hunting Heishe scaredy cat."

Left - Nefi and Heishe huddle,  Right - MewTwo looks uninterested

"If we work as a team, we can take MewTwo the Bored."

MewTwo really does look completely bored by the production.

Verdant Swamp Things*

I have been blog AWOL.  Bad Laura!  I am fully devoted to a sweet little Rabbit that goes by Nefi.  If you missed my Bunny capture post, you can see it here.  This week will be an adventure for both Nefi and I. While I go on a 3-day Team Building Trip with my fellow coworkers, Nefi will be with a fellow employee that volunteers for the Bunderground Railroad for Rescue Rabbits.  I could not have wished for a more perfect Bunny-Sitter for my furry new friend.

Fall normally arrives late in Bakersfield CA.  The expected high is just over 80 degrees F today.  Climbing to the 90's on Friday. Just in time for the company sponsored trip to Santa Barbara for wine tasting. Then on to Shell Beach and Montana de Oro to study the oil rich, beach front outcrops, of the Monterey Formation. If I weren't goin on this trip, I would be jealous.

*Things continues to be Verdant in the Killer Kern River Swamp.  No signs of Fall here.

Right now is the time to wear those favorite Summer Dresses. The Springtime print of the Verdant Slip Dress (green version) contains colors that translate well for Fall.  I cued off orange for the J Crew Jackie Cardi, and blue-green for Anthro's Marine Depth Wedges.

Nefi - my cute, adorable little rescued Hotot Rabbit.

If you haven't yet noticed, I do in fact have a Troll that goes by Ann or Anon. I thought it would be fun to keep score of Me (GeoInCalifornia) vs. Troll (of a certain IP Address)

Here is the point tally from my last post.

GeoInCalifornia = 2 points (troll finds fault with my Nefertari link that was in fact correct)
2 points (troll accuses me of trolling, when in fact I was the one that was trolled)

Troll = 1 point (for a minor spelling error - judgement vs. judgment) note:  I think the error was in the comment section.

Final score = 4 to 1.  Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.  I win!

Just a little bit of fun that is not to be taken seriously.
